Flood Update: Here in Bloomsburg PA, we have experienced our flood of the century. Our home has suffered some damage not nearly as bad as those just a few blocks away. Some homes were washed away. We are happy to say that our studio was completely spared. Days with no power or water, but that has been resolved. Please note that as we are cleaning up and making repairs to our home we will be checking emails, orders, etc. We would like to apologize in advance for any delays in responding.

We do want to thank all those that have helped, offered, and supported us during this time. Your efforts, words of encouragement are the threads that have held us together. There are no words to express our gratitude. Our love always.

Let me start with good evening. More that six months have passed since my last post. Some very great things and some less than great have transpired during this time frame. None the less it is time to get back on the horse so to speak. Right now LA Black Bags is going through a transformation, a rebirth, and I couldn't be anymore excited. I am actually motivated beyond words, but I am getting away from the point I am looking to make. The bandages from this site face lift are slowly being peeled back. So when you have a moment stop by to see alittle of what is being offered.

We have unloaded the truck, had services in place, and boxes are slowly becoming empty. The move is complete for all intense purposes. Well we are all back from our family road trip safe and sound. I can't begin to say how wonderful it was being with family, especially my siblings. Before any Heifer animal is passed along to a project partner, Heifer trains the new recipient in animal management, using our strictly enforced. Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Gender Equity

In Heifer's view, gender equity is a social justice and human rights issue that directly leads to ending hunger and poverty. That's why our participants are equal partners in sustainable development projects.

HIV-AIDS

Today, we as a world community, confront AIDS, a virus that in the past 25 years has either infected or killed over 64 million people. It is not only a health issue, as it fractures every sector of society, for Heifer, it is a prominent concern in the arena of sustainable development. This is why Heifer is incorporating HIV/AIDS education in our community training groups.

Microenterprise

Heifer provides both "no-interest living loans" in the form of livestock, as well as small monetary loans to help people start and expand businesses that yield big benefits for families.

Urban Agriculture

Heifer is reconnecting city-dwellers with their food sources, building strong alliances and instilling an entrepreneurial spirit among adults and youth through our Urban Agriculture projects.

Nothing gets the creative juices flowing again and in time for spring, than trying something completely new. This blue beauty was the third in a series of prototypes. Construction techniques changed with each one, resulting in a much more polished finished product. I am very happy with it.

This past year I was diagnosed with Lupus and one of the biggest problems I have had is the light sensitivity. So I wanted to whip up a bucket hat for myself. Well this hat that measures 23 inches is tight on me (big head syndrome). So I will work on creating a larger pattern for myself. Though I have had some suggest that LA Black Bags should expand the line, possibly to include bucket hats such as these. We will see where it takes us. Have a great weekend.

Happily Handmade Giveaway is Back

The idea behind the Happily Handmade Giveaway began in the Spring of 2004 from a brainstorming session among a handful of indie artists looking for a unique way to promote their businesses and reward their customers. In five years they’ve hosted seven events, each one growing larger and more successful. What began as a small ordeal has grown to surpass their wildest expectations. The Fall 2004 event awarded gift baskets to nine winners, a measly number when compared to the Winter 2007 event which generated fifty-one winners and over $15,000 in prizes.

The Happily Handmade Giveaway is sponsored by a talented group of participating indie artists, designers, and shops who contribute their unique handmade creations to the Happily Handmade Giveaway.
