O Christmas Tree
This year so far is turning out to be the year of the tree. Yesterday we finally purchased our tree, hubby and the daughter went out to scour the tree lots. I was happily surprised at what they brought home. A trim here, a trim there, perfection!
Later in the afternoon it was my turn to add my contribution, hanging the lights. Exciting I know, but someone has to do it. I finished with the lights when the daughter said, "Mom, you started with the wrong end!" A few choice words were muttered under my breath and started removing the lights I had just hung. So, we start all over again, this time starting with the correct end.
The daughter (13 year old) who desperatly wants to do the ornaments is left to her own devices. In my head I am saying, that one should go here, or there, but I keep it to myself. This is her contribution to our christmas tree.
I may be exaggerating the time on this, but it felt like an hour later, she comes running to me to tell me that the lights don't work anymore. This can't be! We can not have any more problems with lights and this tree! I fiddled with bulbs, checked circuit breakers, you name it, I checked it. My heart sank. I muttered ugly words under my breath again.
So soon after it is off to Wally World to find some white christmas lights. We have used white lights for forever, and I have always felt that it allowed the ornaments to shine with less focus on the colored lights. I know, that was way to much thought about christmas lights. I digress. So we are up and down the aisles looking for any sign that there could be any christmas lights left on the shelves. Finally! Lights! Colored! No white lights left! Of course, why not after all the other troubles had with the lights that day. So to avoid having no lights this year, we had to give in to the colored version. Well, if we had to do the colored ones, let's get some tinsel and go all the way!
The tree is completed, and some lovely packages have started to appear under the tree. The smell of pine creeps up on me as I type. So I guess there will be a christmas after all. White lights or not, it is still our christmas tree.

I wanted white lights on our tree but by the time I was about to suggest to Steve, the colored lights were up already, but I kept my mouth shut. Colored lights are very busy with the decorations, so next year, I'm going to suggest the white lights. They are nicer I agree. But the colored bulbs to remind me of our tree growing up.
Merry Christmas to you!!
